Rearranging Our Environment

Well? What about willpower, determination, resolution, self-control, self-discipline, goal setting, etc?

Beautiful words my friends. And I am not being sarcastic.

These are wonderful characteristics of someone’s habits… but here there’s something missing that gives impulse to all those behaviors. Something is missing that, really, gives energy to all these amazing habits that a human being can demonstrate.

Not only humans. We observe these qualities in all organisms; from the ameba to the blue whale, from the little ant to the African elephant.

Those creatures and all of us, at a certain point, under certain circumstances, act with determination, apply willpower, act with resolution and self-discipline and make decisions.

Here’s is where I stop… decisions.

We can decide that we’re going to get from where we are to some other place or situation in life, but the mere decision to “take action” won’t be enough.

The answer is ENVIRONMENT.

To decide to change our environment is different than deciding to start building something.

Genes can be turned on/off because of the environment.

Emotions are a clear indicator of how “clean” or “poisoned” our inner environment is.

Glands inside our brain release chemicals and these are felt as emotions. So, emotions are an indicator of how our inner environment is, basically, altered with.

Isn’t it that we are, maybe, addicted to certain emotions?

Maybe, just asking… Are we provoking circumstances that trigger certain inner states?

Are we addicted to those chemicals circulating in our blood stream in a cyclical time pattern?

Dr. Bruce Lipton teaches it. It is one of the main subjects of his teaching. Here’s an Amazon search for “Bruce Lipton”

Yes… I believe that we’re responsible for our inner environment.

This is why pity parties have to be gone forever… I believe. You can whine and complain about others or your situation but this should last for 30 seconds or so. At the end of the day you’re the one that CAN create your own reality.

The real deal that will make a difference is to change environment. The environment is what forces change and evolution.

Every creature evolved and adapted through the course of millions of years to their environment and BECAUSE of the environment in which they lived.

They were forced to change or die, BECAUSE of the environment. Species were forced to disappear because of dramatic changes in their environment. What was normal, suddenly changed and they didn’t have the chance to move fast enough.

The environment made them keep their behaviors, like determination and stubbornness, otherwise, you know, you perish.

The environment forced them to keep moving, save energy, focus, organize.

Now, think about a simple seed…

A bunch of seeds are on the shelf, inside of a jar, for years. One day, with no specific reason, this guy comes and grabs this jar and goes for a walk.

He goes for about half a mile and suddenly gets tired of this freaking jar (which is heavy and awkward to carry) and dynamically throws this away. This thing brakes and all seeds spill all over the place.

He keeps walking and forgets about this jar with seeds that he kept on his shelf for long years.

You know how it goes… some seeds ended up on the path and birds came and fed themselves. Some other seeds between rocks and, with no much soil, even if they grew up fast, the sun heated the whole thing and they were screwed. Some other seeds fell where bushes and despicable spines suffocated the first little sprouts. BUT some of them fell on the good soil and the rest is history… a story that someone you may know, described around 2,000 years ago.

I like the end of this parable: “He who has ears, let him hear.”

What Jesus wanted to say, his message, was: Environment. He said essentially: “Just change your freaking environment and you’ll flourish.”

As I wrote before, deciding to start building something without changing things around us and “preparing the soil” is like asking a seed to start growing and give us fruits by making it stay on the path where things don’t last or between rocks.

Every little seed has everything, genetically, it needs to grow, flourish and give fruits “Hundredfold, sixtyfold, or thirtyfold.”

Stop telling me that you have no talent or “It is not in my genes…,” If you start talking like that, it’ll be a clear indication that you’re just bullshitting yourself.

All the potential is inside every creature and I’m telling you not just what you know you CAN do but, specially, what you DON’T know you can do.

Amazing things were accomplished by people when REAL hardship knocked them. Amazing transformation and the first amazed ones were themselves.

The good news is that you don’t have to wait until some sort of catastrophe strokes in your life.

The good news… (or bad news in some cases) is that you HAVE TO provoke changes in your ENVIRONMENT if you want some real, permanent changes in your life.

This doesn’t mean that you have to change bedroom and sleep in the kitchen even though it might be an interesting option.

Think about the things around you, what do your friends do, what do you consume on TV, what kind of food do you eat… Things like that are also ENVIRONMENT.

Some people rearrange their furniture because it is a way to modify their environment. Many of them do it without knowing that’s for that reason. There’s an ancient knowledge inside us that tell us: “Change your environment and you’ll feel inspired and energetic…” and this is just one of the voices that comes from the inside every time you’re inspired to change things around you.

But we get confused sometimes with a different kind of CHANGE.

Most of us were endlessly inspired by other people that we consider “successful” and then we hear: “If you just do what they do, you’ll get the same thing…” kind of message.

If you ask every one of them: “Was it painful to get the life you experience now?” they would answer: “NO”

They would probably answer: “Painful were those dramatic changes around me, inside me, circumstances, etc. that forced me to change. But if we talk about the process to build all this, it was just natural…”

Just like a seed in the right soil. A being in the right environment.

All of us want change, external change, good results… but the problem with humans is this: the “story” of ourselves is the FALSE identity that is AUTONOMOUSLY alive. Our FALSE identity FEARS change.

The false identity will fight you to death to stay the way it is. Unconsciously, you don’t want to change, if you decided to “nurture” that identity of “who you think you are.”

Trying to replicate what successful people do without changing your environment is just a waste of time and energy.

Decisions and willpower, efforts and goal setting, determination to take action… It is all a MENTAL thing.

SIMPLY be Just like a seed, with no brain. IT JUST REACTS TO ITS ENVIRONMENT.

Let yourself JUST react to your environment.

This is what COMFORT zone is all about. Getting out of your comfort zone is, basically, changing your environment.

Environment are physical things around us but also what we listen, read, watch, talk, dress, walk, stand, eat, drink, think… and that’s why it is uncomfortable for a shy person to start talking in front of others.

Talking in an unfamiliar situation is a change in our environment. Drinking water instead of a can of sugary soda is also a change in our environment. Watching a documentary about animals in their environment instead of a reality show is also…

For example, what I recently did with my phone.

Until not long ago I used to charge my phone next to my bed. I had my phone charger right there and since I use my phone as my alarm clock, I had all-in-one there just next to me.

If I heard a noise from that phone at 2am, then I gave myself permission to just grab the phone and look who wrote me a message or who liked my posts on Facebook. Because it takes just 2 seconds! What does it cost me to just glance at my phone at 2 in the morning… it is just next to me!

Then, when it’s time, my alarm goes off and I can just “dismiss” the thing and stay longer and start doing my morning routine of work later… I am my own morning boss!

I can do it… and keep being “comfortable” in my own “element.”

Some people can turn the alarm off, get up and do what they need to do, but some others see that there’s no point to get up without snooze it a few times.

The solution? I just changed things around me. I changed my environment, and my phone was part of my environment next to me at night.

I moved the charger next to book shelf, around 15 feet away. Now I go to sleep and my phone is not there and when I wake up and suddenly I realize that the world is still where it was the night before… And guess what! I have to get up and walk to turn off that thing. I feel liberated.

Willpower wouldn’t last long. Determination to follow schedules would have been temporary. But how I changed my environment and conditioned myself to follow a different system, changed everything.

Remember? Environment are physical things around us but also what we listen, read, watch, talk, dress, walk, stand, eat, drink, think…

And what about inside our physical body? My lungs are my inner environment. My stomach, heart, brain, bones, blood, etc.

[continuation from the prior article Our environment inside-out]

There’s no space ship coming here in order to provide food and goods (well… I believe so.) Everything is perfectly balanced and the sun provides its energy.

Returning to all living forms as autonomous organisms, it all simply comes to: 1- What comes in. 2- What changes it provokes. 3- What comes out.

What is meant to come out, IT HAS to come out… but we talk about this later.

The reason why we could confine certain illnesses (like cholera in the 1800s) by understanding the importance of separating the drinking water system from the sewer system.

In big cities until the early 1900s, people use to “sit” on the streets and “deposit” their excrements on the streets, without mentioning food leftovers, which created a great opportunity to microorganisms to proliferate and mutate. The thing is… general public and cities administration didn’t know about microorganisms.

I am a guy born in 1850 and, walking around in London City, I suddenly feel a pressure inside the area where my lower back ends… it is around 11pm and nobody is around, or simply, I don’t see anybody around.

I pull down my pants and I sit there for a few minutes.

I get up and I see what I left on the sidewalk, at the side of that building. Ignoring that it was me, I continue my walk and nobody saw anything.

Until the late 1800s, nobody saw anything more than cucarachas crawling around, bugs, rats, and if they were not on our meal, that was good enough. What was ignored until then, was that, a whole universe of microorganisms was there. Nobody saw them, and mysterious, mass death still proliferated in big cities.

I recently met someone in a hotel’s cafeteria in Toronto, a person that studied for many years and has a good job as an engineer. I had to spend the night in that place before my early flight back to Seattle the next morning. This guy was overweight, in his late 30s and he was drinking his 4th beer that evening. He came closer and asked me if he could sit in my table to just have a chat while TV was playing a BlueJay’s game in the background.

I was waiting for my dinner and I politely said: “Yes of course! Have a sit…”

We talked about his job, my job, weather, etc. Without me asking anything, he openly said that he wasn’t going to live forever and that he didn’t worry about health issues he might encounter along the way.  Suddenly I asked this simple question that opened a huge new understanding and inspiration for this book. I asked: “What do you think is the reason why people increased their life quality and lengths in the last century?”

He replied with a face like -hey, I’m an engineer…  “Well, medicines… we have medicines that keep us healthy and cure our illnesses.”

I replied with a face like –hey, you’re wrong…  “Just the separation of drinking water and sewer was one of the major achievements of our modern medicine.”

This is what I found about cholera in Wikipedia:

One of the major contributions to fighting cholera was made by the physician and pioneer medical scientist John Snow (1813–1858), who in 1854 found a link between cholera and contaminated drinking water. Dr. Snow proposed a microbial origin for epidemic cholera in 1849. In his major “state of the art” review of 1855, he proposed a substantially complete and correct model for the cause of the disease. In two pioneering epidemiological field studies, he was able to demonstrate human sewage contamination was the most probable disease vector in two major epidemics in London in 1854. His model was not immediately accepted, but it was seen to be the more plausible, as medical microbiology developed over the next 30 years or so.”

 Well, until then, science believed that people got sick because of something in the air that caused this terrible disease.

Think about this… I said next: “How important is to clean as you go in life?”

Just imagine how many people would die after a simple surgery if the instruments that doctors use were just wiped with a rug before use?

You don’t see anything wrong on a knife by doing that… but now we know about a world that is invisible but killed and kills lots of people from the inside out.

Our environment inside-out.

I have been vegetarian since 2006ish.

We all grow with the assumption that being a vegetarian improves your health and it’s true, then I discovered that is not that true…

Then, time goes by and sooner than later I realized that there are many things around, what we call HEALTHY FOOD, that are causing our daily failure in keeping our inner environment (the place where we live) clean and in order.

I just wrote “environment!?”

When we think about “environment,” the first feeling is stepping outside and look around. Trees, birds, air and there we are… that’s environment. But if we really think for a moment, our bodies and our environment around us are made of the same matter.

There’s a continuous exchange between what is inside our skins and the world around. Things come in and things come out…

We see it in every autonomous organism; Animals and plants.

If we expand our imagination, we can also consider a lake an autonomous organism, for instance.

We eat, drink, breath. Light comes in though our eyes, meaning forms inside our brain by recognizing things around, ideas, solutions, feelings. The sun’s rays penetrate our skin, giving us a feeling of completion.

Our digestive system starts breaking down our breakfast and starts separating the useful building blocks and energy, from what can be returned back to the environment.

We sweat and moisture returns outside through our skin.

In our modern society, to “return” the “excess,” we simply sit on the toilette, and when we finish, that button is pushed and the whole thing goes down that tube, but in the wild, animals still drop it on the ground, leaving their “excess” to other creatures that continue the process of decomposition, returning all elements to their original form…

Wait a minute… the original form of food for a cow is grass, but the original form of food for a worm is the cow’s crap. Then, the original form of food for a bird is the poor damned worm… then the little bird drops her thing on the grown and there it comes, the poor worm that is always eaten and gets all the crap for lunch.

Talking seriously… Isn’t it an amazing ecosystem?

Here’s another word: contamination.

Since forever, I associated the word “contamination” to a lake, the ocean, the soil, etc. and I bet most of my peers do too. Well, since a lake can be considered an autonomous organism and it can also be contaminated, then my body -that is an autonomous organism- can be contaminated as well.

Think about this… The whole world, I mean, planet Earth is an autonomous organism. Our planet is perfectly autonomous. What comes in? Well, the amazing sun’s energy and rocks still flying around the galaxy. The rocks’ “intake” was very busy in the process of formation, millions of years ago, of what we know now as: The Blue Planet.

Marcello Cicchini: Before the next question I would say… you said something in one of the introductions about self-help, which is many people (Noah meant: SHELF-help) which many people misinterpret. Self-help means that you have to help yourself. So, many people believe that Self-Help reading will make the work for them; “Okay so I read a self-help book and magically things happen.”

Reading… and then it is up to me.

Noah St JohnRight, you have to internalize that,  and, you know I invented a phrase called shelf-help so a lot of people have a lot of books on their shelf, right, and it hasn’t done anything because as you just said, but you actually went one step further than most people, what most people do, as they buy a bunch of books and then don’t even read them. They just put them on the shelf, right, and then they don’t read it. That’s what I call shelf-help.

They go: “- Look at all these books!… – have you read any… No. Have you done anything?… Oh no…, I’m too busy watching TV.” Really?

So, the point is, all comes down to; How much do you want it? How big is your desire?

I started my company called SuccessClinic.com (That’s the name of my company), in 1997 with $800 and a book on how to do HTML. Had no idea how to run a business, how to do any kind of marketing or selling or accounting or how to do… I mean this is 1997, 20 years ago. There wasn’t even any… there’s no Amazon, there was no Facebook, YouTube, social media blogging. That was years away. So, I didn’t know what the heck to do, but I had a desire, I had this deep deep desire to help people, to make a difference and an impact all around the world.

I didn’t know what I was doing and I made mistakes along the way. It cost a lot of money, it took a lot of time, but now I’ve been able to mentor people so they don’t have to make all the mistakes that I made.

You know, so, building your business is kind of like climbing a mountain, right? There’s ups and downs and peaks and valleys. So, it’s really helpful to have, you know, a mentor, a Sherpa, you know, like, to guide along the away, and say; “Hey, don’t go over there because you can fall down and die.” Right? “That’s not a good way over there, but over here’s a shortcut. We can get to the top and a lot less effort.”

So that’s one of the things you can do to speed your way.

M: You mentioned the 3 big mistakes entrepreneurs make. Can you tell us about this?

N: Absolutely! I do talk about it in the book. But, what I was saying is, the first big mistake that people make is one of things that I’ve already talked about, which is your, head trash.

Another way to look at that is you unconscious money blocks.

A lot of us are carrying around, you know, I just call it your story, what’s your story about money, like I was talking about a minute ago. I grow up with: “We don’t have,” “I’ll never afford it,” “We can’t have it,” “You can’t do it,” “I’ll never do it,” “I’ll never amount to much,” just really negative programming… Well millions of people grew up with that, you know, I’m not unusual or special. There’s millions and millions of people out there that grew up with: “I can’t have it,” “I can’t afford it,” so on and so on… So, the point is, when it’s unconscious, you can’t make a choice about it. If something is in your subconscious mind it’s exactly like you’re driving down the road of life with one on the brake, right? So, if you’re driving down the road with one foot on the brake, you’re going to be working really really hard and still not getting anywhere.

So, getting rid of your head trash about money, which is why I wrote the book, that’s really one big mistake that a lot of people are still making.

Another big big mistake that people make is not having a mentor. And as I just talked about, you know, it’s like climbing a mounting. Building your business is kind of, like building a house.

One of the big mistakes that I see entrepreneurs make is, they’re working really really hard. They get up in the morning and they’re excited, they’re like “Hey, I’m going to conquer the world, I’m going to help a lot of people make money” and then you know what they do? They just start slapping boards together, and they hope the house is going to show up.

The point is… all the folks watching are working really hard but most of you don’t have a blueprint, right, when you’re building a house, what do you need? You need a blueprint.

What is the blueprint? The blueprint is something that you lay out in your mind first.

Everything is created 3 times. There are always three creations. First is the creation of mind, which is just an idea or a thought or a desire, like I had back 20 years ago in college dorm room.

I had a desire I didn’t know what the heck I was doing, right?

So, the second creation is when you write something out. You write a plan or a blueprint, like a house. A blueprint is a two-dimensional representation, right? You can’t live in a blueprint… it’s a piece of paper.

About the artist: Marcello (Carlos Marcelo Cicchini) was born in Argentina in 1965, and lived there until 1990. Afterwards, he moved to Italy and, after a year he started a pastoral journey that lasted 15 years… until something had shifted inside of him that caused the beginning of a profound change.

From then on, he began painting, reading new kind of books, writing his thoughts, showing his art and continuously looking for self-improvement. Desire and Vibrations

Yes… we all desire so many things and situations. Now… desiring and focusing on the absence of what we desire creates resistance, unpleasant emotions.

Theres no happy ending with no happy journey

Desire and focusing on our goals creates passion and enthusiasm.

See… there’s no happy ending with unhappy journey. The old me says: “Give me first what I want so I’ll be happy…” Now the new me says: “I put happiness in all I do because I see the goal clearly… I feel I can touch it.”

As I said, there’s no happy endings with no happy journeys, and that doesn’t mean that you have a smooth, unchallenged, pain-free process to get to your destination.

It mostly means that you and me get to focus on the goal instead on the present reality.

When we focus on the goal, and I really mean, focusing on the emotions, sensations, people, situations, scenarios with all 6 senses.

What an artist can do to leverage shows activities

I said 6 senses, and I know that we physically feel with 5 senses. But what about the inner wisdom, with which we all are taught abundantly?

When we are focused on our goal, all the knowledge, tools, people, ideas, resources are gradually appearing.

I experienced (and still experience) a lot of resistance when I focus on things that aren’t working in my life, but when I focus on my goals then I can feel that I’m opening the door for it to happen.

I was listening to Tony Robbins time ago and he gave this example about “when to quit” that literally left me thinking.
 
As a parent, how many times did you let your child try to learn how to walk until you said: “Ok, now you tried too many times… it’s obvious that walking is not for you”?
  How many times did your child try?
 
Even if you don’t have kids, you’ve figured where all this goes.
How many times have you tried?
In any area where you dream to be fulfilled, how many times you need to try in order to succeed?
 
How many different approaches, now many different plans need to be implemented?

Now, tell yourself about the time when you were determined to finish something. What kept you going? What made you continue even though it was tough? I bet the reason why you kept going was because you just believed you could make it!
 
Let’s talk about the baby again. What if the baby had the “ability” to think negative and imagine that he/she couldn’t make it? If that was the case in real life, I think 90% of humans wouldn’t walk.

Thanks God that the baby is “unconscious” and keeps trying, and I guess the baby doesn’t even question about “if” he’ll make it or not.
Returning to us… unless a person had injuries or born with a decease that prevent he or she to walk, a normal person makes it.
 
Even if a person cannot walk, he or she succeeded in other abilities. We learned incredible things at the age when we weren’t able to discern if it was possible or not.
In those who “made it”, there was a lot of irrationality and a lot of “going to the opposite direction” respect of everybody else.
 
They didn’t pay much attention on what other people negatively thought about them. They continued with their plans and they made it. Their focus was on something else.
 
There’s a lot of stubbornness and determination in someone who strongly believes he or she could make it. Amazing characteristics of human beings.
 
All humans are able to experience this. All of them. We can see it in all forms of life. Animals and plants also. Just think about how persistent life is! 
 
It doesn’t matter how others judge you or where all the masses go. The most important thing is how YOU judge yourself.

Dr. Wayne W. Dyer once said: “What others think about me is none of my business.”
  
I would instead focus on this: “What I think about myself is what really matters.”
  
That’s my business and here I’m not trying to be self-centered, egocentric or anything like that. What I mean is that the way we talk to ourselves, our self-talk is very powerful.
  
In the little child that wants to walk, there’s a keen desire, uncontaminated strong determination to stand up and do the first step.
 
There’s no way back to that kind of determination.
 
Are you trying to learn how to “walk” by yourself in a new business? Do you have this goal because you know you’ll get financial freedom, and all its benefits?

Body, Mind, Spirit and Soul

business opportunityI had a conversation with my 90 Day Video Challenge group a while ago… I mean, I made a video to my fellow marketer colleagues, talking about what I am experiencing. What I have never experienced in a conscious way, was the fact that the perfect ideas of yourself are, in reality, your future. What we think that is: “too good to be true” is, in fact, what we have in front of us as opportunities. When I was a minister in Italy, I didn’t know the meaning of the mystical symbolism of “Marrying Christ” or “The union between the Holy Spirit and your soul.” I thought I did know. Now… I don’t intend to look too religious here but, just to translate the same knowledge using different language that point ALL to the same goal. Science and spirituality are not opposite. I have learn from science that body, mind, spirit and soul are all interconnected. Everything that “is” has a spiritual essence in it.

  1. Imagine if the Spirit of God, The Holy Spirit, is how God sees you. I believe we have the power to transform the way we see ourselves by connecting with this source that can ONLY be accessed from within ourselves. All the perfect ideas of yourself, having the best emotions, the emotions you want to experience and the situations, environment and people you want in your life. And I’m talking about also people you want to serve and not just people you want to have benefit from. Imagine all that and hold this image or yourself for a minute.
  2. Now, your Soul, your inner space, your subconscious mind (as your soul) flooded by those perfect ideas, married, united, blended, ONE

Now listen… I mean, read this… What if we force ourselves following a routine of actions, committing to follow a path to a certain goal that goes BEYOND what we believe we can accomplish? When I say “force ourselves” doesn’t mean that we have to bully ourselves, no. It implies that, given that we’re a mass of subconscious impulses (implanted in our soul-subconscious mind) then it’ll be OBVIOUS that we will feel some sort of discomfort, unpleasantness. Our subconscious patterns will FIGHT the new behavior, the new plan, which goes in unknown paths, NEW paths, abandoning the old NEURO-paths that we were familiar to. Spirit and Soul… Super conscious and subconscious. In other words; the UNION of the perfect idea of you, (the Christ within you) and your world around you, with your SOUL, flooded with it. This is the mystical symbolism of “Marrying Christ” or “The union between the Holy Spirit and the soul”. These words are just “street signs”. Don’t be so attached to words. They’re not more important than what they’re pointing to.

I’m used to be self-help, lonely-wolf kind of person but now I decided that some assistance is required.

It was the year 1976 when Sylvester Stallone  with Rocky came out. I was almost 12 years old.

I used to be very independent, I mean, getting on a bus or riding a bicycle and going wherever I wanted to go… so I went to the cinema and I came out punching the air and decided that I was going to become a professional boxer.

Years passed and I got into other things and goals. Definitely I didn’t become a professional boxer but I still remember those days and a strong admiration towards Sylvester remained. His determination and stubbornness in his real life experiences in pursuing his goals is an inspirational model for many people.

My admiration for Sylvester Stallone increased when I, in the passed few years, read about his life story.

Now, I still don’t have second thoughts and I usually act independently, jumping into what my “gut” tells me at once!

I was born “solitary wolf” and I still am… I hope that changes.

Wait a minute… Did I just say “hope”?

That doesn’t sound like a plan to really change. Anyway… that’ll be a different article.

We live in our environment… no doubt about that. And if our environment become poisonous we will suffer.

I didn’t invent the wheel with this… I know.

The point now is. Where does your environment starts? It starts where your skin ends?

What is the environment where you live my friend?

Is it what you breathe, is it what you eat?

I believe that everything is an exchange of energy and all exchanges happen in the environment.

So, we see the clouds that come done as rain. Then the soil absorbs the fluid and part of it form rivers that end in the seas and oceans. There we go again that, from the soil, rivers, seas, oceans and all creatures that absorbed that water, all that water returns again and blends with the atmosphere. Never ending cycle.

Now. We absorb the fruits of the soil, we use part of it as energy and then the rest comes out and return to the soil… and one day, we all return to the soil.

I believe that our environment, where we live, doesn’t end where our skin starts. We are environment and our bodies are part of that environment.

If we spill engine oil on the ground, we definitely are poisoning the soil. No difference with consuming contaminants. Our “soil” suffers and struggles to return to normal again.

It will eventually, but what if we continuously, as a habit, consume junk without allowing our bodies to eliminate, thus, balancing all values to normal?

This truth, the truth of your own responsibility about your own environment arrives to a tipping point here.

Is up to you and whatever your brain is telling you now, whatever idea of blaming society, your parents, your spouse, just ignore it for a second.

What about the simple change of replacing sodas and mass produce juices with water in your diet?

That’s a huge improvement that helps you keep your “environment” uncontaminated and doesn’t require money… it saves you money indeed.

“Why do you need these sweet cookies after dinner?” This is what I asked myself a few weeks ago while, impulsively, I walked towards the vending machine at work and pull out some sweet stuff.

“Aren’t you full already?” And that was my second question… “Do you really need sugar now?”

I went on and on, asking myself questions around the word “why”. The answer was always that I really don’t need cookies.

Since then, it was very easy to answer the truth to myself and so, losing desire for sweet stuff.

The truth was (and is) lots of water is retained in our bodies when our diet is rich of sugars and starches.

Now, the reality is, whatever processed food you buy, especially if is sold inside a box or sealed in a bag, has to have some sort of preservative substances, other than salt, sugar, corn syrup and what not…

I opted for a diet based on raw nutrients.

Don’t give me wrong… I eat yummy pizzas once a week, I enjoy wine, I eat fish here and there, and I break my eating style because I like those foods. They feel like party.

Just because I don’t eat “party” food every day, I “feel” them when I do… I feel the difference. And if I extra eat I really feel really heavy. 

There’s no way you can do this without questioning your daily actions, your unconscious decisions. The change resides in changing your own beliefs and not just thinking about a new diet. 

When I remember every stage of my life, I know that I have changed since then. I know it by recalling how my grocery cart looked like and how it changed in size and in quality. 

As I said, I don’t stop myself to eat yummy stuff once in a while and when I am with company in special occasions, but my plan is to spend more time and money in natural foods rather than long-life-shelf pre-made foods.

This girl eating a watermelon “as is” is a great example of how we should be eating.

We grew up believing that our diet should be fool of different ingredients and a mixture of different substances together.

I quoted John H Tobe in this article because what he said a couple of things that caught my attention.

 

“Any food that requires enhancing by the use of chemical substances should in no way be considered a food.” 

He said also:

“Disease is the biggest money maker in our economy.” 

Even though nobody produces food with the intention to make people sick (at least I don’t believe so,) the truth that we poison our inner environment with our nutrition choices is a fact.

Most of us are addicted to refined sugars and refined wheat and, as a result of a life eating unbalanced meals is: sickness.

How many long-life-shelf products are full of preservatives, sugar, salt?

I found what Wikipedia says about sugar:

“Sugars are found in the tissues of most plants and are present in sugarcane and sugar beet in sufficient concentrations for efficient commercial extraction. The world production of sugar in 2011 was about 168 million tones. The average person consumes about 24 kilograms (53 lb) of sugar each year (33.1 kg in industrialized countries), equivalent to over 260 food calories per person, per day. Since the latter part of the twentieth century, it has been questioned whether a diet high in sugars, especially refined sugars, is good for human health. Sugar is a concentration of once was part of a whole sugarcane or a sugar beet for example.

Also wheat is extracted from a cereal grain and we all (widely) consume refined wheat, which is a high concentration of just one part of the whole cereal.

Returning to the girl in the picture, I imagine that this girl is eating watermelon for breakfast. This is not a processed food. It is given to us already “packed” for our consumption.

I always imagined a breakfast like this: Coffee and milk with sugar as you with, croissant with marmalade, cake, then more coffee with sugar… and then more croissants with marmalade and more cake…

Now I know that real food is something else. 

There’s a difference between the watermelon for breakfast and the breakfast I described before.

The watermelon “as is” is full of vitamins, like: Vitamin A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, C, then Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Phosphorus, Potassium, Sodium, Zinc, Sugars (6.2%) Protein (0.6%) Fat (0.15%)

All is balanced, and if we start by replacing a breakfast with something like that, I mean, natural food, our well-being, which is our natural state, is going to flourish.

Trust your gut, but not too much…

Why it is so hard for many of us to have self discipline in following a diet?
I had a hunch today and I wondered: I have eaten half hour ago… Should I believe to this stimulus to open the fridge again?
Should I believe that this “signal” really means that I’m hungry? This apparent need could be a lie. Should I follow a lie?
The reality is that many of us affirm that we don’t like lies. We affirm continuously that we wouldn’t trust the next thing a “liar” tells us.
We, though, are used to the lies that we tell ourselves all the time.
Today I helped myself by answering those questions, taking responsibility in doing what is best for my own body.

Certainly, eating unnecessarily is a waste for many reasons.

Money: The majority of us walk isles of stores trying to find the best for the less money possible. Most of us eat double of whatever we bought that made us save money.
Work overload: Yes, our organs have to work more to digest all the substances we ingest. Our bodies have their own intelligence and that intelligence is used to manage in the best way possible. This ability changes as we progress in age. So we continue ingesting more food than what we need, the “production line” slows down inside and we keep growing.
Health: Imagine if the garbage truck stops coming every week and we’re given plastic bags to store our garbage inside our apartment. They claimed that those bags would seal odors and substances, preventing from coming out… 
What happens inside our bodies when we live a life of food congestion is this: What we cannot eliminate, is stored. This means we store toxins inside our cells which creates a poisonous environment, which means that cells need to adapt in order to survive. This is why cancerous cells once were healthy ones.  
What do we need?
It is a good practice eating lots of vegetables and fruits. Recently I wrote an article about a very healthy vegetable recipe made very simple and fast.
We grew up believing that having lots of different nutrients in every meal is good for us.
I personally believe that the less we mix different foods, the better for our health. The less salt and sugar we consume, the less risk of chronic deceases we’re exposed to.
